With the Los Angeles Lakers gunning to repeat as NBA Champions, they’re going to need all the talent they can get. Following their acquisition of Andre Drummond, they’ll have a solid rim-running big man to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Of course, it also means 3x All-Star Marc Gasol will have to take a major step back in his role. Already, Gasol has expressed disappointment at losing his minutes to Drummond, causing many in the community to question his loyalty and commitment to the team.

Well, following L.A.’s victory over Toronto on Tuesday, in which Gaoslplayed 27 minutes, he made sure to set the record straight on his feelings towards the team:

Marc Gasol on his role:

“I’m fully committed to the team…no matter if it’s 5 minutes, 10 minutes, some nights I won’t play…I’ll stay ready."

Gasol isn’t necessarily a major contributor to the Lakers, but his experience and playmaking ability has been a help in the absence of LeBron and AD. Additionally, Drummond’s arrival could cause some serious locker room problems if Gasol doesn’t set a good example for his team.

Needless to say, he had to decide what kind of teammate he wanted to be. And, instead of questing for minutes, he seems willing to step down for the good of his club.

We’ll see soon enough where that gets him, and if the Purple and Gold are successful in defending their title.
