Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest player to have put on a Dallas Mavericks uniform. He was an amazing shooting power forward, and his prowess from the midrange area is well documented. We all know what Nowitzki’s signature one-legged fadeaway looks like, and there’s no doubt that the former MVP is one of the most iconic players in history.

Due to Nowitzki’s status with the Dallas Mavericks, a jersey retirement in the future is a no-brainer. He was the leading superstar for the Dallas Mavericks’ 2011 NBA championship, and he beat some elite players such as Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James on the way to his ring. He is viewed with a lot of respect not just by the Dallas Mavericks fanbase and organization, but by other fanbases as well.

Mark Cuban has recently revealed that Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey retirement could potentially happen during the upcoming year. Cuban stated that “it would be up to Dirk” as the former superstar engages in a lot of travel currently. The Tweet also mentions that Dirk Nowitzki approved a “prototype” of his potential statue.

Mark Cuban on @theeagledallas said Dirk's jersey retirement is "potentially happening this year."

"That's going to be up to Dirk because Dirk travels a lot these days."

Said Dirk has approved initial prototype of his statue, but Cuban wants to wait until there's more to show.

There is no question that Dirk Nowitzki’s play had an inspiration on the younger generation of basketball players, and many remember how skilled he was on the court. Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons has previously claimed that “coming from Dallas, he was the biggest thing we had in basketball”. Dirk Nowitzki’s legacy is alive and well, and his greatness won’t ever be forgotten.

While the Dallas Mavericks no longer have their legend on the roster, they are currently in good hands with superstar Luka Doncic. Luka Doncic has some way to go before he’s as accomplished as Dirk Nowitzki, but he certainly has the talent level to get there. Dirk Nowitzki certainly thinks highly of the Slovenian superstar and has stated that Doncic is better at 22 than he was in his prime. Hopefully, that bodes well for the future of the Dallas Mavericks.
