Mark Cuban Says Luka Doncic Could Become The Greatest Maverick Ever

Luka Doncic is only playing his second season in the NBA, but the Slovenian point guard is making sure to leave a great impression in the league. He’s young, he’s just a sophomore, but the things he’s displayed with the Dallas Mavericks so far make you think this guy has everything to become one of the faces of the league in the future.

For Mark Cuban, though, Doncic could go further and not only become one of the best players in the league but also the best player in the history of the Mavericks. Dallas has had very great players on the roster throughout history, including Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Mark Aguirre, and Dirk Nowitzki, who is considered the greatest player in franchise history.

Cuban believes Doncic has a big chance to surpass all these players and finish his career as the greatest Mav ever.

“Could he [surpass Dirk]? Yeah, because I think the game has changed enough, it’s more wide open today than it was when Dirk first got to the league,” Cuban claimed, via Gerald Bourget of Fansided. “So he’s got that advantage, but he could win MVPs, he could win a championship.”

The Mavs owner added that Dirk and Doncic are very good friends, and the German big man wouldn’t mind if Luka surpasses him.

“I hope so, and I know Dirk would hope so too,” added Cuban. “They’re good friends too, so I think they support each other either way.”

Doncic has been great this season. He was even considered an MVP candidate at some point in the season before Giannis Antetokounmpo reached the huge level we saw from him. Dallas expects to have Doncic for many years to come and see if the Slovenian can take them to the promised land, just like Nowitzki did in 2011, beating the Big 3 Miami Heat.

In 54 games, Doncic was averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game, taking the Mavs to fight for 4th spot in a stacked Western Conference when nobody believed they could do it.
