The Los Angeles Lakers made a big pickup when they landed Markieff Morris last season. He’s a versatile, strong defender that can finish inside, knock down some shots, and even play some small-ball center.
Morris has played a big role for the defending champions off the bench, stepping up when the team needs him and having his teammates’ backs when things get tough or physical.
That’s why he hopes to finish his career with the purple and gold, as he recently said in an interview that it’d be a perfect ending to his NBA journey:
“I hope this is the last stop of my career,” Morris told J. Brady McCollough of the Los Angeles Times. “I would do anything to get back. Playing with LeBron and AD in L.A. and winning multiple championships? That would be a perfect ending.”
Thus far, Markieff Morris is averaging 6.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 three-pointers per game on 40% shooting in just 19 minutes per game, but his impact goes beyond the stat sheet.
Morris is enjoying his life in California, claiming that he’s spending a lot of time with his daughter and wouldn’t like to move in the foreseeable future.
Markieff also said that he’d love to match up vs. his twin brother Marcus in the Western Conference Finals and that it was the first thought he had when he joined the Lakers:
“Coming here, that was the first thought I had,” Markieff said. “Like, damn, I’d be competing against Marcus in the Western Conference finals.”
The Clippers allegedly tried to avoid the Lakers’ side of the bracket by losing their two last games of the season, so, maybe, they’ll have a chance to fulfill that dream this year.
