Metta Sandiford-Artest Rips George Karl For Calling The Lakers Old

The Los Angeles Lakers certainly have a lot of talent, nobody is saying otherwise. With three of the best players in the world on the roster, the Purple and Gold are poised for a big season.

Still, there is some doubt surrounding their capabilities, which mostly stem from their age.

With much of their core being past the age of 30, the Lakers have built a rather unorthodox group of veterans and older players, drawing many questions about whether or not they’ll be able to stay healthy for the duration of the season.

Former NBA coach George Karl took his turn poking fun at the team, posting this message on Twitter:

This team is headed straight to the 2012-2013 NBA championship!!

It has been over a week since the Tweet, but former Lakers Champion Metta Sandiford-Artest fired back against that narrative in a rather hilarious post that probably refers to Karl:

Metta isn’t the only one to stand up for this Lakers squad. Not too long ago, Shaquille O’Neal spoke his mind on the subject:

“Yeah, they definitely stacked their team,” Shaq told Complex. “They’re older, but until you can show me a young team that has dominated the league, I’m not really worried too much about their age.”

Yes, the Lakers are older. They have guys past their prime and even some younger ones with a long history of injuries in the past. That fact will certainly pose some challenges for them throughout the season.

Still, the Purple and Gold have enough talent to overcome any obstacle. Between LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, they have the fire-power to compete against anyone in the league.

It remains to be seen what the team will accomplish moving forward. For now, all we can do is stand back and wait to see how it all plays out.
