The Detroit Pistons finally won a game after over two months as they beat the Toronto Raptors 129-127 on Saturday night. The record-tying 28-game losing streak has been snapped, and head coach Monty Williams shared what their locker room was like after the win.
“I’ve been in a ton of locker rooms my whole life and that’s a first for me, to have that kind of, it wasn’t relief, it was like, ‘Thank god, finally,'” Williams said. “Guys were screaming, I was almost in tears, and I’m just so happy for our guys, happy for everybody in the locker room. Sometimes it just takes a win like that to get things started.”

For the sake of the Pistons and their fans, I hope this win does get them going. Getting this win would have certainly meant a lot to this young team and it isn’t surprising that Williams would have gotten very emotional looking at their celebrations.
While he has come under fire a fair bit this season, it is safe to say this group of players is still playing hard for Williams. In some ways, you could see this win coming, considering what happened in the two previous games. The Pistons led by 14 points at one stage against the Brooklyn Nets and were up 21 against the Boston Celtics.
It just seemed like a matter of time before they put it together, and it happened against the Raptors. The key now for the Pistons is to build on this win and ensure they end up with a respectable record this season.
Cade Cunningham’s Reaction To The Win
If there was one man who escaped criticism during this losing streak, it was Cade Cunningham, and rightly so. Cunningham has put in some exceptional performances recently and against the Raptors, he had 30 points, 3 rebounds, 12 assists, and 1 steal. After the game, he was having a hard time not cheesing.
“I feel amazing,” Cunningham said. “This is my first time trying not to just be cheesing right now during the interview. I feel good. It’s been a long time coming, so don’t wanna go back to where we were.”

No one would want to go back to where the Pistons were. Cunningham deserves a lot of credit for how well he has played during this difficult stretch and while many on the team stepped up to get this win, he was the biggest reason they came out on top.
The 22-year-old scored 14 points in the fourth quarter alone to help the Pistons keep the Raptors at bay. Toronto tried to stage a late comeback, but it was a little too late by that point.
The Pistons Now Hope To Avoid Setting Another Unwanted Record
Thanks to this win, the Pistons will remain tied with the Philadelphia 76ers when it comes to the longest losing streak in NBA history. They at least avoid the embarrassment to come out of having the record by themselves, but there is now another one they have to avoid.
At 3-29, their winning percentage of 9.4% still stands as the lowest in NBA history. The lowest for a completed season stands at 10.6%, from when the Charlotte Bobcats went 7-59 in the 2011-12 campaign. The Pistons need to win more than eight games this season to ensure they don’t set the new record and with the way they’re playing, I think they will get it done.
