To say that New York Knicks fans do not like owner James Dolan might be an understatement. He is one of the more hated sports team owners in the U.S., which is saying something, and you would be hard-pressed to find someone who says he doesn’t deserve it. A lot of the team’s failures since the turn of the century can be attributed to his poor management, and Dolan has done little good in his time at the helm for fans to feel that there is any hope for a better future.
So, when a report came out that Dolan is likely to sell the team after the MSG sphere is constructed, Knicks fans must have been filled with joy. Finally, the bane of their existence seemed to be on his way out, but the joy was short-lived. Tommy Beer reached out to an MSG executive, and that individual made it clear that there are no plans to sell the team.
Received a quick and direct response from MSG executive regarding recent speculation that owner James Dolan might consider selling the Knicks or the Rangers:
"We have no plans to sell either of the teams."

Well, that was the end of that. It almost seemed too good to be true for Knicks fans, and they will have to endure this for the foreseeable future by the looks of it. Hopefully, for them, the product on the court will be better next season as compared to 2021-22.
On that end, the Knicks have managed to acquire Jalen Brunson in free agency, and they have also re-engaged in trade talks with the Jazz for Donovan Mitchell. Even if they fail to land Mitchell, Brunson should help them improve this upcoming season, although there are doubts on just how far he can take them.
This is a franchise that has won just 1 playoff series since the 2000-01 season and while Brunson can help them add to that series wins tally, anything beyond a few of them here, and there would be somewhat unrealistic. The only way the Knicks are ever going to return to being contenders is if Dolan sells the team, but that, unfortunately, doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.
