Lakers superstar LeBron James is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning. With 20 years of greatness under his belt, LeBron has already cemented his place in basketball history and his career will be celebrated by fans and athletes for decades to come. So when James hinted at considering retirement earlier this month, it sent shockwaves throughout the NBA community.

While some took his word as legitimate, many fans are doubting that James is actually considering walking away. According to one league analyst, the King would never quit without a whole retirement tour for his final season.

“If you think he’s not gonna make the city of Cleveland and the city of Miami kiss the ring on his farewell tour, you do not know LeBron James, you have not watched the last 23 years of LeBron James we have seen.  He will have all of the ceremonies.”

LeBron just finished a season where he averaged nearly 29 points per game on 50% shooting, so there is no doubt that he can still play at a high level. In fact, it was James who led the Lakers to the Conference Finals despite starting 2-10 on the season.

To retire now, when he is still so much better than most players, would certainly be an interesting choice given how much money he would be leaving on the table. Nevertheless, it’s up to LeBron to decide when to call it quits and he might think now is as good a time as any to hang up his jersey for good.

Is LeBron Better Than 90% of The NBA?

We all saw James’ struggles this season, and his durability is obviously not what it used to be. Even still, James is one of the top 10 best players in the game thanks to his amazing strength and sheer basketball genius.

“Because I’m still better than 90% of the NBA. Maybe 95%,” James said after Game 4 vs Denver.

We will find out soon enough if LeBron is for real about this retirement plan, but it would be out of character for him to deny himself (and the NBA world) a chance to celebrate and honor his place in sports history.
