NBA Fan Almost Gets Screwed Out Of A Free Car After Successfully Hitting 3-Pointers At Jazz Game

A Jazz fan almost got screwed out of a free car for hitting three three-pointers, as officials deemed his last make came after the buzzer.

Utah Jazz fans at Delta Center were up in arms in the third quarter of the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night. It wasn’t because the Jazz were getting blown out, though, but because a fan was getting screwed out of a free car. The individual had to make three three-pointers in 30 seconds to win it, and while he seemed to have done it on time, officials claimed his last make came after the buzzer.

As the individual celebrated, Mike Goodkind, the Jazz’s in-arena host, shared the bad news that he wasn’t getting the car.

“We talked to the judges,” Goodkind said. “It was after the buzzer.”

He would only get $600, and the crowd started to boo quite loudly upon hearing that. It would have seemed very clear to them that the fan had released the ball before the buzzer sounded. It was deemed, though, that he hadn’t gotten it off before the 30-second clock expired and, hence, had to settle for the cash prize.

Fortunately, the decision was later overturned. This “Threes for Keys” contest has been designed by Ken Garff Automotive Group and a representative from the company decided to give the fan the car anyway. The individual was brought back to the court and as Goodkin told him he would be getting the car, the crowd broke into loud cheers.

While you would love to think the representative did it out of the kindness in their heart, it might well have been that they realized the company would get blasted on social media for not giving the car. Whatever the case may be, the fan got it in the end, which is all that matters.

It also gave him and the rest of the Jazz supporters something to smile about on what was yet another disappointing night. They saw their team suffer a 10th defeat in a row to drop to 29-46 on the season, as the Cavaliers won 129-113.

At one point earlier this season, it seemed like the Jazz might end up competing for a playoff spot. A run of nine wins in 10 games had seen them improve to 22-20 on the season in January, but it all went downhill after that. The Jazz have the worst record in the league after the All-Star break at 3-17, and at this point, the focus has already shifted to the draft lottery in the offseason.
