The NBA has orchestrated its league to be played between two conferences, the East and the West. Naturally, every player has a hometown that they won’t necessarily play in but continue to represent regardless of where they are. So when it comes to a geographic East and West, which coast can claim the best NBA players?

For a clearer view, we created our own picture to help readers get a clearer view of which side has what players.

Best NBA Player From Each U.S. State

The Best Players On The East Coast: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Stephen Curry, Shaquille O’Neal, Dwyane Wade, Allen Iverson, Kevin Durant

The Best Players On The West Coast: Kawhi Leonard, John Stockton, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Damian Lillard, Jason Kidd, Paul Pierce, Reggie Miller, Klay Thompson, Kevin McHale, Chris Bosh

Fans had the strongest opinion on the matter, with most realizing the East is stacked but some were still arguing for the West,

“East and it’s not even close.”

“Kobe – Philly, Jordan- New York, Lebron- Ohio, Shaq- New Jersey, Bill Russell- Louisiana, Wilt- Philly, Durant- D.C. Game over!”

“East Coast clapping West Coast.”

“Bro the West will destroy the East eight days of the week.”

“The East giving the West buckets like a middle school team playing the 2008 Olympic team”

“Jordan, LeBron, Shaq, Magic, Steph, and Kobe were all born in the East. Don’t even need to look up other names beyond that. Case closed.”

“East is WASHING the West!”

“East Coast in every sport to ever exist.”

“Not even a question. East Coast 100%.”

“The entire top 20 is East Coast except for Bill Russell and Karl Malone.”

“How many hoopers are from LA alone? We not even talking about SoCal or the Bay. Or Arizona, Texas, Oregon, or Washington? Fam. Don’t let 3-4 names make you forget what side runs basketball.”

“California has some of the best hoopers, but the East wins this in a LANDSLIDE. It wouldn’t even be competitive.”

“You can move the line over another quarter to the right and the right side is still better.”

“Northeast alone has better hoopers than all of America.”

Who Has Better Players: The East Coast or The West Coast?

An important statistic to remember is that a huge percentage of Americans live on the East Coast, with the West Coast in this debate also including many of the mid-Western states. Regardless, the quality and quantity of players from the East is just so staggering that there’s no way the West could win this debate.

If we were pitting a state against another state, the winner could’ve been California from the West, but they’re doing a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to the greatest players born on the West Coast. There are many basketball-state equivalents to California in the East, with New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, the Carolinas, Florida, and other places such as Ohio also providing a lot to the East.

When you think of the greatest names to play basketball, they all happened to be born in the East. Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from New York, LeBron James and Stephen Curry from Ohio. Dwyane Wade from Illinois, Kevin Durant from Washington D.C., Magic Johnson from Michigan, and Larry Bird from Indiana among so many other names.

The West has its fair share of killers, especially in the modern NBA. However, the team is extremely California-focused, with some of the best players in the West being James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Paul Pierce, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Damian Lillard. Outside California, some great players such as Chris Bosh from Texas, John Stockton from Washington, and Domantas Sabonis from Oregon. Still, they just don’t stand a chance against the stacked all-time East Coast team.
