  • Anthony Edwards and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander are two of the brightest young stars in the NBA
  • Edwards and Shai both made the All-Star team for the first time this past season
  • Fans were asked which of the two they’d build their franchise around

The future of the NBA is in very good hands, thanks to the likes of Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They have both shown tremendous promise in their relatively short NBA careers, and fans were recently asked the difficult question of which of the two they’d build a franchise around.

One fan believes Shai has no weakness and is better at a lot of aspects of the game than Edwards.

A fan is going with Edwards as he is already this good despite being a few years younger.

Edwards being the better defender is why a fan is picking him over Shai.

A fan believes Shai is overall better and thinks only casuals would pick Edwards.

Another is picking Edwards as he thinks the Minnesota Timberwolves star will last longer in the NBA.

Let’s have a bit of a deeper look at how these two stack up.

Anthony Edwards 2022-23 season stats: 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 2022-23 season stats: 31.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.

Shai, of course, had the better season, and he even made the All-NBA First Team, which is very impressive. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard is the better player at the moment, but that’s not the topic at hand.

Gilgeous-Alexander is 25 years old now, and while you’d expect him to get better, it’s unlikely he will improve leaps and bounds. Edwards, meanwhile, is just 22 years old now, and putting up those numbers in his age-21 season is quite something.

Another factor in favor of Edwards is that he is more durable than Shai. The Canadian has had his struggles with injuries and hasn’t managed to play 70 games in each of the last three seasons.

Edwards, meanwhile, has played in at least 72 games in each of his three seasons in the league, so his upside and durability are why I would go with him here.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
