When you think of the greatest point guard over the last decade, there is one individual who has really separated himself from the pack, Stephen Curry. That is saying something, too, as we have been blessed to see some truly amazing point guards in action over these years.

Damian Lillard, Russell Westbrook, and Kyrie Irving have all had their fair share of memorable moments on the court and NBA fans were asked who among them at their peak they’d choose to build a team around.

One went with Westbrook for carrying the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Washington Wizards to the playoffs.

A fan went with Kyrie, as he is the only one with a ring.

Another, though, thinks Kyrie can’t carry the team, while Lillard took the Portland Trail Blazers to the Western Conference Finals once.

One fan thinks Lillard is the only one among these three who has been the best player on a successful team.

Westbrook being the only MVP here gives him the edge for one fan.

There are cases to be made for all of them, although Kyrie probably has the weakest one. He is the only one to win a championship here and while he played a big role in it, he was definitively the second-best player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, with LeBron James being the top dog. He has had chances after that to show he can lead talented teams to success but has failed to do so.

Lillard and Westbrook, meanwhile, haven’t been surrounded by a whole lot of talent when they were the best players on their team. Dame still led the Blazers to the Conference Finals in 2019, which might give him the edge, but if you’re talking about just the best player at their respective peaks, it’d be Russ.

Can One Of These Three Win A Championship Next Season?

The 2022-23 season ended in disappointment for all three of these future Hall-of-Famers. Lillard and Irving missed the playoffs, while Westbrook was eliminated in the first round.

You’d think the only way is up for the upcoming season for Kyrie after the Dallas Mavericks crashed and burned following his arrival. A full pre-season with Luka Doncic should help for 2023-24, and when you have two talented players like them, there’s always a chance to be great.

As for Russ, his fortunes for next season depend on Kawhi Leonard and Paul George’s health. If the two of them can stay healthy in the playoffs for once, they’ll be a massive headache for teams to deal with, but at this point, you certainly won’t be counting on them staying upright.

Lastly, for Lillard, he’ll certainly have a great shot at winning a title if he does get traded to the Miami Heat. There hasn’t been a whole lot of progress on that end, however, and if he somehow ends up staying with the Blazers, then it is going to be another wasted season.
