Stephen Curry made a bit of history on the golf course this month when he won the American Century Celebrity golf tournament for the first time. He became the first active professional athlete to win it since 2000 and is just the second-ever basketball player to have come out on top there.

After Curry’s triumph, NFL legend Rob Gronkowski wondered if he was better than some professional golfers and if he could go for pro if he focused on golf. Steph was asked about those comments during an interview with Sports Illustrated recently.

“It’s something that I would be confident I could work towards because that’s the competitor in me,” Curry said. “But I say that with a caveat of complete and utter respect for the professional golfers out there that dedicated their lives to it because I do understand how hard it would be. So, both could be true, I feel like I could get there, but I also know it’d be a lot harder than probably success in basketball for me.”

That’s a pretty fair response. When you are a competitor like Curry, you will fancy yourself to be great at anything if you put your mind to it, especially if you are already quite competent at it. At the same time, he is showing respect to those who have spent their entire lives working toward that goal. Perhaps if Curry had focused on golf from a young age he might have made it to the pros, as he certainly has some talent, but it’s too late now.

Stephen Curry Isn’t Swapping The Hardwood For The Golf Course Just Yet

Steph certainly isn’t regretting his decision to pick basketball, of course. He has won four championships, a Finals MVP, and two MVPs in the NBA and is one of the greatest players ever.

A reporter hilariously asked him after this win at the ACC if he was going to retire from basketball now to focus on golf, and he had a brilliant response.

“Have y’all seen those CBA terms in the NBA? Life is good in the league, so I’ll be alright,” Curry said.

Life is certainly good in the NBA when you’ve accomplished all that he has while also being the highest-paid player for this upcoming season at $51.9 million. Curry is also coming off a fine season in which he put up 29.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 6.3 APG, 0.9 SPG, and 0.4 BPG, so walking away from the game is the last thing on his mind.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
