While Westbrook had had the better individual career, winning an MVP and averaging a triple-double in multiple seasons, Kyrie Irving has experienced championship success, winning the 2016 NBA championship with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Both Russell Westbrook And Kyrie Irving Need To Have Big Seasons

Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook have had great careers, but have seen their respective reputations take a hit over the last few seasons. Westbrook’s disastrous stint with the Lakers saw him becoming the scapegoat for the team’s failures while he was there, whereas Kyrie Irving’s controversial behavior off-the-court, along with his departure from the Nets has made him a risk for any team that signs him.

Last season, Russell Westbrook averaged 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. As for Kyrie Irving, he averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. Both players were traded at the deadline and seemed to enjoy being part of a new team.

Both players are extremely talented, but they have a lot to prove to their critics, and by extension, teams in the NBA, and show why they are worth keeping around. Irving is expected to remain with the Mavericks, whereas Westbrook’s future remains undecided, although the Clippers want to bring him back.
