Tensions tend to be high on a basketball court and at times we see courtside fans get into it with players. While it’s usually just some no-namers involved in these exchanges, that wasn’t the case on Friday night.

Shannon Sharpe was in attendance as the Los Angeles Lakers welcomed the Memphis Grizzlies and things got heated between him and the visiting team. Security had to get involved as Sharpe exchanged words with the players as well as Tee Morant, father of Ja Morant

You never Steven Adams lose it the way he seemed to there, which makes you wonder just how bad the situation was. Fortunately, it didn’t get physical as both sides would have seriously regretted that in the future.

Shannon Sharpe Explained What Led To The Altercation

As everyone wondered just what happened there, Sharpe gave an explanation to ESPN on what led to the altercation. He stated that he and Dillon Brooks were exchanging some words with each other when Ja suddenly got involved. His father soon followed and things eventually threatened to get out of hand.

Sharpe also added that the Grizzlies didn’t want that smoke and it doesn’t look like any of them apart from Adams really wanted to get involved as the situation escalated. Still, Shannon shouldn’t have gotten involved here as he was just there as a fan. This whole thing started because he was jawing with Brooks and he needs to be better than that.

The incident somewhat took away from a tightly-contested encounter that went down to the wire. The Grizzlies led for much of the game but the Lakers managed to take the lead late thanks to a clutch steal by Dennis Schroder and then hung on for the win. It ended the Grizzlies’ 11-game winning run and was probably the most impressive performance by the Lakers this season.
