After an underwhelming finish in Dallas, Kyrie Irving is facing a major decision about his NBA future. This summer, does he look to sign with a new team and try his luck with a fresh start, or does he look to re-sign with the Mavs and secure a long-term contract with Luka as his ‘permanent’ running mate.

Since Irving is about as unpredictable as they come, nobody can say for sure what he will do when it’s time to make a choice. But that didn’t stop fans from theorizing about his future after his latest Instagram story went public.

“Took years of patience and persistence to get to this point. I’ll be back in a little while.”

It’s tough to figure out exactly what he means here, but the text coupled with the video of Kyrie in a Mavs jersey has led some to believe it’s a hint that he’s coming back to Dallas.

In the replies, one fan explained why he is confident Irving will be a Maverick next season.

He’s coming back. I didn’t like the trade in the first place, but Mavs are now in a position where they almost HAVE to bring him back, and while I don’t know for sure, I think he genuinely liked his short stint with the Mavs. I’d bet a house…not necessarily mine, he returns

Another fan roasted Mavs Gm Nico Harrison for likely caving on giving Irving the max.

One fan took the post more positively, showing cautious optimism that he’d return and everything will be okay.

This gives me confidence he’s coming back

One bold Dallas fan predicted a big summer for the Mavs, who finished 11th in the West/

To most, however, Kyrie remains an enigma who cannot be taken at his word. It’s not too long ago, after all, that he was talking about loyalty with the Celtics and Nets. So how can the Mavericks know that he’ll stick around?

The truth is, Dallas took a huge risk in trading for him and there’s a decent chance they might lose him for nothing the same way they lost Jalen Brunson.

Lakers Expected To Pursue Kyrie

Even had the Mavericks played really well with Kyrie, there was always going to be a chance he joins the Lakers this summer. With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and an ambitious GM, it’s no secret that Irving has been tied to the Purple and Gold since February.

“When the Lakers want someone, they get him,” said Matt Barnes. “No matter what the cap is, no matter what they have to do when the Lakers want someone they get him. So it’ll definitely be a Kyrie watch. When they want someone, they make it happen.”

Only time will tell us how this Kyrie saga plays out, but the rumors and speculation will continue until he finally makes his decision.
