  • Michael Jordan had a phenomenal rookie season in 1984-85
  • A comparison of Jordan’s stats as a rookie and LeBron James’ in his 2012 MVP season recently went viral
  • NBA fans reacted to it, with many believing a rookie Jordan was better

Did you know that Michael Jordan’s stats as a rookie stack up quite favorably to LeBron James’, from when he was league MVP in 2012? Well, many NBA fans recently found that out thanks to a post that went viral on social media.

For those wondering why the blocks are in favor of Jordan, his average was 0.84 while LeBron was at 0.81. There wasn’t much to separate them, but the Chicago Bulls legend did just about come out on top. We had done a comparison of rookie Jordan and 2012 MVP LeBron, as well, with the former getting the edge.

NBA Fans Think A Rookie Jordan Was Better Than 2012 MVP LeBron

It was really surprising, how well Jordan’s numbers compared to James’. Many NBA fans reacting to the post came away with the conclusion that he is just better than LeBron.

One thinks LeBron fans should just keep their mouths shut now, “All LeBron fans need to shut the hell up forever after reading this. Jordan all day.”

A fan says only kids think James is better than Jordan, “Only 10-year-old kids can think LBJ is the goat.”

One said there should be no debate on who is the greatest, “There’s no question about it I don’t know why everybody still thinks that LeBron James is even close to Michael Jordan. He couldn’t carry Michael Jordan’s gym bag. Michael Jordan is the goat no questions asked.”

A fan pointed out that Jordan’s scoring average would be even higher in today’s NBA, “Those 28.2 PPG MJ averaged would be 38.2 in today’s NBA.”

One says you only need to look at the facts to find out who’s better, “It’s hilarious how this is even a conversation and comparison still. All facts everywhere support every time Jordan is the GOAT. Just imagine if he didn’t take two years off!”

In my mind, it wouldn’t be completely fair to just judge them based on those numbers. Jordan had just been drafted by a terrible Bulls team and had no co-stars, while LeBron was playing alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat. His numbers were going to go down a little bit because of that, but he was still very impactful in games and hence, won MVP.

Michael Jordan’s Incredible Rookie Season

While some may see the comparison as a slight on LeBron, the fact is that Jordan just had one of the best rookie seasons ever. His average of 28.2 points per game is the sixth-highest in NBA history for a rookie.

Jordan became just the second rookie ever that season, to average more than 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, with Oscar Robertson being the other one. He was also voted in as a starter for the All-Star as a rookie. We have only seen a handful of players be All-Stars as a rookie, let alone starting the game itself.

Jordan helped the Bulls get 11 more wins than the previous season, and they made the playoffs with a 38-44 record. They’d lose in four games to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round, but Jordan averaged 29.3 points per game in his first-ever playoff series. It was just an amazing rookie season, the likes of which you just don’t see very often.
