The 2022-23 season did not end in the manner that the Los Angeles Lakers would have liked, as they got swept by the Denver Nuggets, and now it is time to shift the focus to the 2023-24 campaign.

The first order of business will be the 2023 NBA Draft in which they’ll have the 17th pick and Lakers insider Jovan Buha from The Athletic revealed the team’s plans for it.

“The most likely outcome is the Lakers keeping the No. 17 pick, according to multiple team sources not authorized to speak publicly,” Buha wrote. “But that could change if the right trade becomes available — including a team making an enticing offer for the Lakers to trade back later in the draft. I think the right trade would involve using the pick to secure a starting-level upgrade available in a trade on draft night or later this offseason — like, say, Myles Turner in Indiana…”

The Lakers have done a fairly good job in the draft in recent years, so it makes sense they’d want to keep that pick unless someone like Myles Turner becomes available. The question though, is whether LeBron James might push for them to make a move regardless.

We saw just how much better the Lakers got after they made those moves before the trade deadline. LeBron might feel that if they can get a couple more pieces that fit well with this roster, even if they aren’t big names, then it could be enough to win the title next season.

Jovan Buha Says There Is Only A 10-15% Chance The Lakers Sign Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is a name that has been linked with the Lakers for a while now and he is, of course, entering free agency this summer. While reports indicate LeBron wants Irving on the Lakers, Buha doesn’t believe there is much of a chance it happens.

He thinks there is only a 10-15% chance that Kyrie is a Laker next season, as there are many factors that need to go their way for it to happen. The team doesn’t seem particularly interested in Irving either and they are instead focusing on bringing back as many players as they can.
