Rudy Gobert has a reputation as one of the best defensive centers in the league, and there’s no doubt that he’s a good player overall. As of right now, Rudy Gobert is averaging 13.6 PPG, 11.9 RPG, and 1.3 BPG for the Minnesota Timberwolves, while shooting 67.1% from the field.

Even though he’s a solid center, Rudy Gobert does have some holes in his game. He is a player that has a limited offensive game and a penchant for poor turnovers. He is currently averaging 1.7 TPG, while only averaging 0.9 APG. Obviously, that is in part due to his role, but his turnovers are clearly a concern. In fact, a recent report from Brian Windhorst revealed that Rudy Gobert’s teammates have been frustrated with his turnovers. (10:07)

“They knew that Gobert had limitations. They didn’t expect him to walk in and everything would be perfect. They knew it was going to take some time. But he has really frustrated the fans there and frustrated his teammates because earlier this season, he kept having turnovers. They would run plays, pick-and-rolls for him and the ball would go through his hands. I don’t have the number in front of me to tell you how many of those turnovers he had, but for the Wolves and their fans, it felt like 100. There was some frustration there and then his defense was good, but wasn’t game-changing like they thought.”

There’s no doubt that the Rudy Gobert acquisition has not worked out for the Minnesota Timberwolves thus far. However, they could end up turning things around in the future as they develop chemistry. Hopefully, Rudy Gobert manages to limit his turnovers in the future, and help the team reach the next level.

The Minnesota Timberwolves Are Committed To Winning With Rudy Gobert

There’s no doubt that the Minnesota Timberwolves have received a lot of scrutiny from the media for their performance this year despite making a win-now trade for Rudy Gobert. However, the team has no plans to change course, and a recent report revealed that they’re committed to Rudy Gobert long-term.

Every conversation I’ve had with people in the Wolves org since the day the hired Tim Connelly is that they’re committed to a long-term vision with Rudy Gobert and Chris Finch. Which is to say, as I get many questions, that I’d be shocked if they make a big change any time soon.

The Minnesota Timberwolves definitely have the talent to get far in the playoffs, but the key now is for them to figure things out and develop chemistry between their stars. A previous report revealed that there’s a disconnect between the players, and it is clear that they have a lot to work on.

Hopefully, we see the Minnesota Timberwolves get more wins in the second half of the season. They are a prime candidate to make a winning run with the New Year, and we’ll see how well they do for the rest of the year.
