The NBA finally revealed the starting 5 of both the Western Conference and Eastern Conference All-Star teams with familiar faces donning the jerseys across both teams. No face is more familiar than LeBron James, who is tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most All-Star game selections with 19 after being announced as the captain of the West.

James has been captain of his All-Star team for the last 6 years and is yet to be beaten in the new All-Star draft format, which will see new changes applied this season. Inside the NBA revealed the starters, as Charles Barkley hilariously honored LeBron’s longevity while revealing his name.

“The captain. 96 years old, he’s gonna become the all-time leading scorer soon. LeBron James!”

LBJ will be joined by Nikola Jokic and Zion Williamson in the starting frontcourt, while Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry will be the two guards starting in the contest. LeBron will hope to continue his winning streak at All-Star games alive this season, after beating Kevin Durant’s team for the last 2 seasons.

How Will The New Draft Rules Affect Team Selection

The NBA announced new draft rules where the teams will be selected prior to the game on the floor in classic pick-up style selections. Captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will pick players as they line up on the court, making the draft process more instantaneous and injury-proof, as players won’t have to be replaced out of existing teams drafted earlier.

James has faced Giannis in the All-Star game as a captain twice before and been victorious both times. He’ll look to make it 3-0 but will face challenges with how Giannis drafts. The new rules were inspired by a Kevin Durant suggestion, so it’ll be interesting to see where he and other players like Curry, Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and more get drafted.
