Andre Miller Shares How He Overdosed On Chocolate And Ended Up In Emergency Room For Two Days

Andre Miller was one of the NBA’s most steady point guards for nearly two decades, a player known for his durability, basketball IQ, and the fact that he almost never missed a game. But on the All The Smoke podcast, Miller revealed one of the most bizarre and hilarious stories from his career, one that had nothing to do with his jumper, his passing, or his defense. Instead, it involved chocolate.

Miller admitted his guilty pleasure has always been candy, particularly chocolate. And one night in Portland, that sweet tooth almost got the best of him.

“Man, chocolate, candy. Man, I’m gonna tell you a story. I’m playing in Portland, and me and my woman, we go the day before the game, it was a chocolate convention.”

“And like, you know, convention centers are huge, so it was just unlimited chocolate. The day before the game, I’m just in there eating all kinds of chocolate, different stations and stuff, and I forgot who we were playing the next day, but I could feel it coming.”

“I just overdosed on chocolate. The game starts, man, the first trip up and down the court, I literally ran off the court and I had to go to the emergency room. They put me to sleep, man. They morphined me. They put me to sleep for like two days. I ate so much chocolate, man. I overdosed. Like, literally, I had food poisoning, everything.”

If you’ve ever been to a convention center, you know how massive they can be. Now imagine an entire floor lined with chocolate vendors, samples at every table, and endless variety. For Miller, it was like heaven but also a dangerous trap.

At first, it probably seemed harmless. A little too much sugar, maybe a stomachache. But once the game tipped off, Miller realized it wasn’t just a sugar rush. His body completely shut down.

Think about that for a second. One of the most durable players in NBA history, a guy who played in 1,304 of a possible 1,318 regular-season games in his career, actually missed time because of a chocolate binge. He didn’t sprain an ankle. He didn’t tear a ligament. He just couldn’t stop eating candy at a convention.

It’s a story so wild that most fans couldn’t believe it when they heard it. Miller laughed it off on the podcast, but he was dead serious. He had to be morphined and slept off the overdose for two full days.

The funny part is, Miller isn’t alone in this. Almost anyone who loves sweets can relate to the temptation. Drop a grown man in a convention hall full of free chocolate and chances are he’s going to overdo it. For Miller, the difference was that he had an NBA game the very next day.

In hindsight, the story just adds another quirky layer to Miller’s legacy. He was the consummate professional, the floor general every team wanted, but even pros can get caught slipping when candy is involved. And for fans, it remains one of the most outrageous and oddly relatable NBA stories ever told.
