Trae Young is having the sort of season that perhaps no one expected when the 2022-23 campaign began. The Atlanta Hawks got him a legit co-star in the offseason, trading for Dejounte Murray to be his backcourt partner. Things seemed great on paper, but the Hawks have been far from perfect this season.

Trae Young was expected to be in Atlanta for his career, many thought he was the franchise’s centerpiece of the future after they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in just his 3rd season in the league. But things have been far from great this year, with Young already rumored to leave the Hawks. His relationships within the hierarchy have gone downhill, and the reasons for that began last season.

Trae Young Reportedly Hired A Private Jet Without Telling The Hawks Last Season And Got Fined By The Team

The relationship between the franchise and its star has gotten so bad, there have been suggestions that. a trade request could become a reality soon. But for most people, it’s hard to pinpoint where exactly things started going wrong. In a recent piece by Lauren Williams of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, further light has been shed on the situation.

“The Atlanta Hawks reportedly fined superstar guard Trae Young for chartering a private flight during last season’s playoffs without informing the team.

“According to Lauren Williams of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Young chartered the private flight back to Atlanta following a Game 2 road loss to the Miami Heat in the first-round playoff series that the Hawks ultimately lost 4-1.

:Williams noted that Young’s relationship with general manager Travis Schlenk has “deteriorated,” and the issues began with Young’s decision to neither fly back with the team nor inform the team of his whereabouts.”

The Hawks lost embarrassingly in the playoffs last season, falling meekly to the Miami Heat. It was disappointing for a team that had shown so much promise earlier in their time together. Things seem ready to blow with the Hawks right now, though, with the team seemingly reducing their price tag on John Collins as well.

Whether Trae Young stays a Hawk or not seems like a complicated question with no immediate answer. The team has a lot of figuring out to do, but losing one of the best offensive players in the NBA at this moment might not be something that the franchise will be able to handle.
