The Los Angeles Lakers are having a confusing season. While they are the 13th seed in the West and among the worst teams in the league, they’ve shown incredible fight on the court and managed to keep themselves in the playoff hunt despite their poor roster which has recently had 3 rotational players injured.

The Lakers desperately need to make a move to add elements of shooting and defense to their roster. However, it looks like the team will be waiting to see players like Anthony Davis, Lonnie Walker IV, and Austin Reaves return to the lineup before they make a decision on the trade market.

“It always a level of performance and a consistent level of performance that you look for when you’re building out your lineup. And so we’ll see how quickly they are to getting back in rhythm and we’ll see where we can plug who where, whether it’s in the starting lineup or off the bench. So that’s something that remains to be seen, we’ll see how they respond to getting back on the floor and getting back with their teammates and then make a well-informed decision at that point.” (h/t Lakers Nation)

AD is expected back by the end of this week, while there isn’t clarity on what will happen with Austin Reaves and Lonnie Walker. All we know is that Lonnie is further along than Reaves and will likely return to the court before the sophomore.

Can The Lakers Afford To Keep Waiting?

The Lakers need help whenever they can get it. They just gave up a 32-point quarter to the Portland Trail Blazers, a team that’s just one win ahead of them in the standings. They’re likely going to lose this game and continue trailing the rest of the playoff teams in the West.

It’s almost malpractice at this point for the Lakers to let this season go and not make the moves that would easily make them a playoff contender given how thin the margins are. It seems like we might be heading into a second consecutive season of the Lakers not making any moves before the trade deadline.
