The Donovan Mitchell saga might be coming to an end shortly, as the Utah Jazz keep working to find him a new home while getting a big haul in return. A couple of weeks after they traded Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Jazz are working to get a deal done for their other star, Mitchell.
He’s been linked with a series of teams recently, including the New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets. It’s unclear where he’ll go next, but sources in Utah claim that Mitchell is gone as the team is finishing details to announce the move.
During today’s edition of the Jake & Ben podcast, Jake Scott and Ben Anderson talked about Mitchell leaving the organization pretty soon, but not revealing where he’s headed now (0:52 mark).
“I’ve been receiving texts, as we speak that the Donovan Mitchell deal is done. It’s agreed upon. They’re working on some final details to be announced here shortly. And quote, ‘it’s a haul’. These are just texts, I haven’t confirmed because I just got them right now, but yeah. There’s connections there. It’s only a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’. The ‘when’ could be stretched out, but I’ve been told it’s not.”
Interestingly, no team was mentioned here, but they’re reporting that the Jazz will get a lot in return for Mitchell. Danny Ainge reportedly wants seven first-rounders to send Donovan to New York, and it’s unclear if that’s what’s happening behind the scenes.
Mitchell has drawn a lot of attention recently, and if the Knicks don’t make the move, other squads will be ready to snatch him away from Utah to create a solid team to compete for the title. This could happen today and we have to be ready to see where Mitchell is heading now.
