The Golden State Warriors have started 5-1 this year, and that's certainly a good start for a team that has championship aspirations this season. They notably beat the Los Angeles Lakers, who are considered to be one of the favorites for the championship in their season opener.
Their record has come without sharpshooter Klay Thompson, who is slated to make his way back around Christmas time. That will certainly be a boost to the team and provide them with a two-way presence and a reliable second scorer.
Draymond Green has recently stated that the Golden State Warriors area "pretty good team" currently, but with Thompson's return it's "a whole different ballgame". Green also added that the Warriors need Thompson to return.
I think we're a pretty good basketball team right now, with a lot of room to grow...Without Klay, we can still be a pretty good team, but with Klay, you know, you're talking a whole different ballgame. So we need him back.
It's clear that adding one of the greatest shooters of all time to this Warriors roster can only mean good things. Klay Thompson is a reliable off-ball player and isn't ball-dominant. That'll help him ease back into playing in the NBA, until he is ready to take on the offensive load that he used to have, as the No. 2 option. If he is close to what he used to be when it's playoff time, the Golden State Warriors should certainly be viewed as a contender.
It remains to be seen whether Klay Thompson comes back at Christmas exactly, or whether it will be a little earlier/after the date. His health is clearly the priority, and there should be no rush to get him back if he isn't 100% ready to go. However, the Warriors will clearly be a better team with him, and hopefully, his return comes sooner rather than later.
