Former Celtics Guard Isaiah Thomas Channels His Inner Kobe With 81-Point Game In Pro-Am League

3 Min Read

32-year-old Isaiah Thomas was once an MVP candidate in the NBA. During his heyday in Boston, the small guard wNaas their shining star, making the All-Star team with averages of 24.7 points, 6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game on 44% shooting.

Eventually, a hip injury would de-rail his career, and while he would spend the next couple of years in different teams around the league, it wouldn’t be long before he was eventually out of it entirely.

Nowadays, I.T. continues to ball out as he awaits his next opportunity.

So far, things have been relatively quiet for him — save, of course, for the 81-point performance he recently put together in Jamal Crawford’s “The Crawsover” Pro-Am league.

The scoring display has put some eyes on him and calls for a team to give him another shot have surfaced all around the NBA.

Check out some of his highlights from the night:

Interestingly enough, I.T. gave a shout-out to Kobe bean Bryant before his epic game. For those that don’t know, Bryant was the last NBA player to drop 81 in a regular-season game.

Like a lot of other players and fans, Thomas grew up idolizing Bryant, who became an NBA icon after being drafted in 1996.

So, it’s pretty cool that I.T, was able to drop 81 on the same day he remembered Kobe.

The question now is, can Isaiah Thomas make his way back into the NBA?

His latest sting involved a 3-game tenure with the Pelicans, in which he averaged 7.7 points and 1.7 assists on 33% shooting. Perhaps his biggest flaw, however, is on the defensive end, where he is more of a liability than anything.

No doubt, that fact (coupled with his inefficiency) is what continues to subdue his NBA comeback.

Still, in light of his scoring output, it’s not yet completely over for I.T. As calls increase for his return to the league, it’s becoming more and more likely he’ll land at least one more gig.

Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves what the future has in store for the 2x All-Star.
