Former NFL player Gerald McCoy revealed some interesting information on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast. He claimed that several of his teammates claim that they would be able to score more than Ben Simmons in the NBA if given the opportunity. McCoy obviously found that statement to be ridiculous.

“I have teammates, buddies, and homies that say we can (play in the NBA). I say we can’t. You saying you can lets me know you never sat courtside at an NBA game… I have teammates in the locker room being like ‘Oh, I can go get more than Ben Simmons’. Shut up, man, you’re lying.”

This conversation was part of the debate about players in the NFL and the NBA thinking that they can find success in each other’s leagues. Recently, Marshawn Lynch claimed that James could find success in the NFL as a tight end, which has been discussed greatly for years.

Ben Simmons being a punching bag for players outside the league is unsurprising. Simmons as a player has fallen off greatly, after showing signs of great promise during his first few years in the league. Now with the Brooklyn Nets, Simmons has become one of the most disappointing players in the NBA.

Simmons has been a poor scorer since his decline, with him averaging just 7.9 rebounds, 6.1 points, and 5.7 assists with the Nets last year. He is entering the final year of his contract next season, and the Nets are most likely going to move on from him at the end of the contract.

Can Ben Simmons Ever Get Back To His Best?

For the past three years, fans have wondered about Ben Simmons returning to his best. Every year, Simmons has garnered excitement from fans during the offseason because of his workout clips. And without fail, when the season begins, his performances have been utterly disappointing.

On top of that, Simmons isn’t able to play a large number of games. In his first season with the Nets, he only played 42 games for them, just a little over half the number of games in the season. And last season, it was even worse, as he played just 15 games for them.

However, there are still players on the Nets roster who seem to believe in him. Earlier this summer, Cameron Johnson noted that a healthy Ben Simmons would be a massive boost to the Nets next season. Clearly, Simmons does have his supporters, whether he warrants that support or not.

For Simmons, next year is the most important of his career, as it would determine whether he gets to stay in the NBA long-term or not. Simmons is almost guaranteed to not make the same kind of money that he is right now, thanks to a five-year, $177 million contract he signed with the 76ers in 2020.

For him to even have a spot in the NBA, for considerably less money, he will have to prove that he is at least reliable enough to warrant a smaller contract. Whether that happens, we will have to see next season.
