Giannis Antetokounmpo On Supermax Extension: “Right Now, I Am Not Focused On That”

2 Min Read

The topic of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s free agency has probably been the talk of every front office in the league. The young Greek superstar is an MVP caliber player who you can build a team around. While the Milwaukee Bucks had a great year during the regular season, during the bubble they collapsed to a defensively stout Miami Heat. With the addition of New Orleans star Jrue Holiday, the Bucks had hoped to entice Giannis Antetokounmpo to commit long term to the franchise.

While that may have been the intention of the front office, the Bucks star is taking his time picking a destination in free agency. When questioned about his contract by Malika Andrews, the Bucks’ star didn’t give a definitive answer saying he was focusing on himself instead.

While leaving negotiations to your agent is something a lot of NBA players do, Bucks fans have to be slightly worried at the lack of commitment from the MVP. Giannis Antetokounmpo may choose to explore his options in the future, and no one would be surprised if he left for a bigger market like Miami. But at the same time, Antetokounmpo may very well sign the supermax, and stay with a franchise that adores him.

While this isn’t necessarily alarming news, we should keep an eye out for the Bucks’ star situation in Milwaukee. The Bucks have made win-now moves to appease their star; now they just need Antetokounmpo’s commitment to let them build for the future.
