Kevin Durant has never shied away from the noise on social media, and once again, he delivered a cold and unapologetic response to a fan accusing him of derailing a potential dynasty in Cleveland. A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted:

“Oh man @KDTrey5, f**k you bro for ruining what would have been a dynasty in Cleveland.”

Durant, as usual, didn’t miss a beat. His reply was short, sharp, and laced with the kind of venom only a two-time Finals MVP can deliver:

“I rejoice every morning that it didn’t happen.”

The context behind this interaction runs deep in NBA lore. After the Cleveland Cavaliers completed a historic 3-1 comeback against the 73-win Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love looked poised to dominate the East and potentially repeat as champions.

No team in the conference could rival their firepower or experience. With the Warriors exposed, Cleveland was entering the 2016–17 season as the favorites to go back-to-back.

Then came the seismic shift, Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors in free agency in July 2016. In an instant, the balance of power tilted back to the Bay Area. Golden State, already elite, became virtually unbeatable with Durant added to a core that included Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Durant’s arrival ended any realistic shot at a Cavaliers dynasty. From 2017 to 2018, the Warriors faced the Cavaliers in back-to-back NBA Finals and won both series convincingly, with Durant being named Finals MVP each time.

In the 2017 NBA Finals, Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, shooting 55.6% from the field and 47.4% from three.

He hit the dagger three-pointer in Game 3 over LeBron James, an iconic moment that all but sealed the series and shifted the narrative around KD’s clutch legacy. The Warriors won the series in five games, and Durant’s dominance was undeniable.

In the 2018 Finals, Durant once again rose to the occasion, putting up 28.8 points,  10.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, shooting 52.6% from the field and 40.9% from three.

His Game 3 explosion, 43 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, was a historic masterpiece that shattered Cleveland’s hopes. The Warriors completed a 4-0 sweep and cemented their place as one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history.

While fans in Cleveland and across the league still resent Durant’s decision, his response makes it clear, he has no regrets. The move to Golden State brought him the success he had long chased, and he’s not about to apologize for outmaneuvering the competition.

Durant’s reply might sting for Cavs fans, but it reflects a harsh truth: he didn’t just join the Warriors, he became the engine that ended Cleveland’s championship dreams. And as KD put it best, he wakes up every morning knowing it.
