Kevin Durant Says He Now Likes His “Slim Reaper” Nickname: “It’s Time Now… Back Then It Was Too Good Of A Nickname For Me At That Age.”

Kevin Durant is having a terrific season with the Brooklyn Nets, returning to the NBA after an ACL injury that kept him away from the court for the entire 2019/20 NBA season. Now the player is ready to win his third NBA championship with a new franchise and he’s playing just fine so far, lifting the Nets above their competition and making them the clear favorites to come out of the East this campaign.

Durant is playing like he never suffered any injury and has been killing defenses every single night now, playing like his best version. Back in August, KD probably warned everybody about what was coming this season after he revealed he liked his infamous “Slim Reaper” nickname. KD wasn’t a fan of that at a young age but now it’s time to embrace that nickname and play like it.

During an interview with Barstool Sports’ The Corp With A-Rod and Big Cat, the 2x NBA champion revealed he was ready to bring back his slim reaper version and dominate just like he’s been doing so far (43:46 mark).

“There was a time. It’s time now… Back then it was too good of a nickname for me just to have at that age.”

Back in 2014, Durant made it clear that he didn’t like that nickname unless everybody else who loved that probably more than they loved Durant.

“That name is what it is,” Durant said. “It’s cool to have a nickname somebody else gave to you. It’s kind of weird if you make your own nickname up. But to have that out there, I guess, is cool. “I’m here to shine a bright light. I’m not here to be a guy of, I guess, death. We’ll see what happens with that, but I just like KD better.”

“Everybody’s been loving the name. I think I’m the only one that really doesn’t like it too much.”

Now Durant is trying to lead the Brooklyn Nets to the promised land alongside James Harden and Kyrie Irving. He’s been a bad man so far and the Nets can’t be happier to see well good their star is playing now. He’s showing his Slim Reaper version and that should be scary for the rest of the league.
