The Times of Israel

Following their series-clinching win over the Celtics on Tuesday, Kyrie Irving spoke to the media, in which he identified his team’s 2021 playoff run as a world-unifying movement.

“We uniting the whole world with this championship run, so I hope everybody is with us. We uniting the whole world with this run. Stick with us baby.”

For those that are familiar with Kyrie, his post-game message won’t be particularly surprising. He’s all about unity, togetherness, and positivity — all of which are admirable causes.

Unfortunately, he might be wrong about how the NBA community feels about his team.

Even before the acquisition of James Harden, fans were rather hesitant to support the Nets. Kyrie Irving has a complicated and bizarre history in the league, while Kevin Durant has full-on embraced a villain role by flaming anybody who dares to criticize him on social media.

After Harden joined, it was full-on hate for the team, thanks to the negative stigma that typically surrounds “super” teams.

Needless to say, most fans are rooting against the Nets this season, just like fans were rooting against the Heat and Warriors.

Still, you have to love the message and optimism by Kyrie. He wants to unite the world.
