The one thing that has become apparent throughout the last few seasons of watching the Brooklyn Nets is that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are very much good friends. In a league where superstars tend to be quite competitive with one another, a genuine connection seems to exist between KD and Kyrie, to the point that both were reportedly trying to be traded together to the same place.
And many have questioned how this works, considering that Irving is often involved with several things off the court and Durant lives almost purely to play basketball. But there must be a lot of things that fans don’t know about the stars’ personal lives. However, a recent clip of Kyrie and KD together on Instagram Live has gone viral, with Irving saying something that can be considered to be quite bizarre.
“In my past life, like I said, I was you. I was you, I was you. What you are now, that’s what I am up here. Same mentality, I’m getting to a spot, I’m raising up, I’m getting to the bucket. My footwork is impeccable, I have length, I’m able to shoot over the top. Hold the follow through, and I don’t see people.”
It’s hard to tell what exactly Irving was talking about, and to a certain extent, the bizarre nature of the clip can be explained away as a lack of context. However one interprets it, though, it’s hard to exactly understand Irving’s point in this situation, especially for Nets fans.
Kyrie is quite spiritual, and no one can tell him how he should or shouldn’t feel, but with the way things are going right now, soundbites like this only serve to confuse fans even further. Irving owes nothing to no one, but with the type of noise that’s been around him in recent years, it would be interesting to see if any team trades for him, especially without Kevin Durant.
