There have been a couple of times this season when the Los Angeles Lakers seemed dead and buried. They were a woeful 2-10 to start off the campaign, and just when it seemed like they might have turned things around, misfortune struck.

The Lakers had rebounded to get to 11-16 when Anthony Davis went down with a foot injury, and it seemed like they were set to slide down the standings. The Lakers did fall to 14-21 over the next couple of weeks, but they have once again found ways to battle through adversity. They have now won 4 in a row to get to within touching distance of a playoff spot, and LeBron James spoke about the reasons behind their turnaround after their latest win over the Atlanta Hawks.

“I guess it’s just trying to play basketball the right away, especially offensively. You know, moving the ball, sharing the ball. Equal opportunity for everyone and then defensively, just flying around helping each other.”

“We’ve done a great job of defensive rebounding when we get stops. We do a good job of getting stops, but at times, especially early in the season, we didn’t have a lot of second-chance points and things of that nature, but tonight we had 44 defensive rebounds. That’s pretty amazing. So, we was very locked in on the keys at hand and only gave up 4 second-chance points.”

Just doing the basics well goes a long way toward helping teams win games. Ball movement and effort on the defensive end have helped the Lakers steady the ship, but there will be tougher challenges for them up ahead, like the game against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night.

LeBron James Won’t Be Satisfied With Breaking The Scoring Record If The Lakers Are Losing

The biggest talking point surrounding the Lakers this season has been LeBron chasing down Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the all-time leading scorer in NBA history. That day isn’t too far away, and while it would be an incredible moment, James says it wouldn’t feel right if the team isn’t winning.

He’d be hoping that they can keep up this winning run, and with Davis also making great progress on his return, he’ll get some much-needed help soon. The star big man was playing at an MVP level before he went down, and he’ll be looking to pick up from where he left off.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
