LeBron James is one of the most notable names to ever pick up a basketball, but his career is decidedly in it’s twilight now. The once unstoppable machine looks like a human nowadays but fans are just as invested in his career as ever. James is on the floundering Lakers and is expected to carry them again this season, a task that’s looking increasingly impossible.

Despite the struggles in LA, LeBron James is still the most popular figure in the NBA. The leading basketball statistics website, Basketball Reference has shared their ‘Spotify Wrapped‘ with stats from their website in 2022. James was the most viewed player over the course of the season and information about him led the site’s traffic in over half the American states.

Other surprises on this list have to include Rolando Blackman being popular in Mississippi and Andrew Wiggins having a stranglehold on Alaska. Either way, LeBron’s relevance is unmatched, even though he’s almost a 38-year-old in the 20th season of his career.

When Will The League Move Past LeBron James?

In terms of on-court talent, the league has adjusted to no LeBron in the playoffs over the last few years. Since joining the Lakers, LeBron has missed the postseason twice and beena  first-rund exit once. The days of him carrying NBA coverage through the playoffs and Finals are long gone, with fans being interested in seeing which non-LeBron teams will be in the Finals.

As far as stats like this go, the intrigue around LeBron’s career statistics will increase the more he plays. There are adult basketball fans that don’t remember the start of LeBron’s career, so the intrigue around what he’s achieved from a numbers perspective will boost him. When he’s gone, someone else will likely take his place, but not with the same impact.
