In his quest to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the leading scorer in the NBA, LeBron James unlocked some unique achievements on his way.

And one of them came on his birthday when he notched up 47 points against the Atlanta Hawks to help the Los Angeles Lakers register a 130-121 win.

James’ stellar effort was coupled with 10 rebounds and 9 assists, a near triple-double that would have been his first of the season. He had played on his birthday eight times and had a similar performance in 2009 with 48 points and 9 assists.

His 47 points against the Hawks saw him surpass Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson. With his 20th point of the night, James notched up 276 points on his birthday and crossed Robertson, who had 275 points.

With his 20th point tonight, LeBron James has 276 points on his birthday in his career. That surpasses Oscar Robertson (275) for the most in NBA history.

The King put on a show, and the icing on the cake was a win — one that perhaps gives the Lakers some momentum as they head into their next stretch of games.

LeBron James Delivers After His Bombshell Postgame Press Conference Following The Lakers Loss To The Miami Heat

James’ masterclass came right after he took a shot at the Lakers’ front office following their 112-98 loss to the Miami Heat. And his performance against the Hawks further cemented his case for why he needed an upgraded roster to give them a chance of staking a claim for the postseason and beyond.

He minced no words when he spoke about his intentions to win another championship.

“I don’t wanna finish my career playing at this level from a team aspect,” said James after the game. “I still want to compete for championships. I know what I can bring to any ball club with the right pieces. I’m a winner and I want to win. And I want to win and give myself a chance to win and still compete for championships.”

At the time of writing, LA is far from being a playoff team, especially with Anthony Davis missing a few games due to his stress fracture. They will need him and some competitive players if they intend to make the postseason, and the hope is that the front office looks at what James still has to offer and switch to win-now mode.
