This season, Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has once again forced himself squarely into the MVP conversation. Averaging 34 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game for a Mavericks team that has won eight out of their last 10, Doncic is having another historical run.

If Doncic were to win the MVP this year, it would be the first in his NBA career. And while that’s obviously a huge milestone for any NBA player, Doncic recently admitted that he doesn’t go out of his way to read the latest MVP ladder.

In fact, according to Luka, the NBA isn’t even the biggest source of his basketball viewing pleasure.

“Not really. I watch some NBA games, but I watch more EuroLeague than NBA. But if it is a really good NBA game on TV, I will watch it (via Grant Afseth).”

As a former EuroLeague MVP, Doncic knows the Euro hops scene all too well and seems to appreciate it even more than the NBA.

As for the award races, it seems like Luka is completely unbothered by his position in the MVP conversation. Yet, he may end up actually winning it this year.

If no. 77 continues to break the NBA as he has in recent weeks, and the Mavericks keep winning at the rate they have lately, the voters could reward him with the Michael Jordan trophy.

For Luka, however, his focus is on the win column more than anything else.

Can The Mavericks Win With Their Current Style Of Play?

As good as Doncic is, there have been some doubts about how the Mavs will succeed in the postseason being so reliant on one guy. In the past, we’ve seen how tough it is for one star to carry his team through a series, and the West this year isn’t going to make the path any easier for Doncic.

Speaking to the press after the win, Kidd didn’t mince his words when he said the team was demanding too much from the 23-year-old. Per Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News:

“We’ve got to get healthy here soon. We’re asking too much of Luka,” said Mavs coach Jason Kidd last month.

On paper, the Mavericks lack the co-star every team needs to go all the way. They thought they had that guy in Kristaps Porzingis before that experiment failed.

Now, the search goes on as Doncic continues to make the case for being the superstar player most deserving of reinforcements.
