The football world and sports, in general, have lost one of their maximum idols. Argentine superstar Diego Maradona has sadly passed away in Argentina at the age of 60 due to a heart attack. Diego was one of the most controversial sportsmen of all time, drawing love and hate whenever he goes thanks to his personality and antics. However, that never stopped him from being one of the most respected and idolized footballers of all time.
The NBA world is mourning his passing now, with Manu Ginobili, one of his closest friends, paying respect to the 1986 FIFA World Cup champion. Manu took to Twitter and left a message for Diego, his family and all the people that loved him during his life.
Muy triste! Gracias Diego por tan lindos momentos!
Abrazo enorme para toda su familia y para un pueblo que lo amó profundamente. pic.twitter.com/QC0s8xbzHR

Just like Ginobili, more NBA stars showed their sadness with the news, paying respect to the Argentine genius on social media. Luka Doncic and Pau Gasol among others sent their condolences to the Maradona family.

Maradona never hesitated to show his love for basketball. Back in the day, he admitted he ‘had fun’ watching LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.
Moreover, he admitted that he was a San Antonio Spurs fan from the days Tim Duncan and David Robinson were part of the team.
“I was a Spurs supporter before Manu (Ginobili) came when the Twin Towers were there, Tim Duncan and the admiral David Robinson,” Diego said in 2019.
Something curious about this tragic death is that happened the same day Fidel Castro died. Castro was a close friend of Maradona and one of the most famous political figures in the world who died this day, four years ago.
