Mark Cuban Wants To Build A Casino Resort Where The Dallas Mavericks Would Play Their Games

Mark Cuban would like to take advantage of potential new Texas state gambling laws and build a new casino resort for Mavericks games.

Mark Cuban is one of the most business-savvy owners in the NBA. His business decisions have increased the Mavericks’ value by over 200% since he took over in 2000. Cuban has built championship teams and drafted great players such as Luka Doncic while keeping franchise favorites at home like Dirk Nowitzki.

What is making headlines in December 2022 is Cuban’s business mind at work once again. The State of Texas is considering legalizing gambling facilities in its state for the first time. With this news, Cuban pitched a multibillion-dollar idea for a new integrated casino resort. The resort would come with a brand-new arena for the Mavericks. This would mean the American Airlines Center would no longer be their home after calling it so since 2001.

Is This The Right Decision For Dallas?

I am in no position to question the business acumen of Mark Cuban or the direction he wants to take the franchise. There is a reason the Mavericks are valued at $3.3 billion today compared to the $285 million Cuban bought them for in 2000. Cuban has taken the Mavericks to new heights on and off the court, but maybe that shouldn’t be his primary focus.

I mean, this is the same man who started a tech company with $8,000 in his pocket. He then turned around and sold that company for $5.4 billion 5 years later. Cuban needs no instruction when it comes to business decisions and what is best to make money. Basketball, on the other hand, is a totally different story. Cuban and the front office have failed their fans with a basketball product worthy of a $3.3 billion value.

Fans are growing restless with his failure to build around Luka Doncic in his first 4 seasons. They are growing restless with being unable to lure the big free agents every summer despite high expectations. They are certainly growing restless, awaiting their 2nd NBA championship, the first of which occurred 13 seasons ago. A new arena may attract new basketball fans when integrated with a casino and resort. What it doesn’t do is improve the product on the court.
