Having a good owner is very important for a team to succeed in the NBA. There are 30 teams in the league right now, but not every franchise has a good owner. One of the most invested owners in the NBA right now is none other than Mark Cuban.

Cuban has been running the Mavericks for over 20 years now. The biggest positive about Cuban is the fact he is super invested in watching basketball, as he can be seen a plethora of times attending the important games of his team. Moreover, Mark Cuban takes rivalries with his team pretty seriously.

One of the most recent examples of it was when he got frustrated at a particular participant on ‘Shark Tank’ for showing him a product with the Golden State Warriors logo on it. Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks were knocked out of the 2022 playoffs by the Warriors, so he certainly holds a grudge against the Dubs.

How Did Mark Cuban Buy The Dallas Mavericks?

Purchasing an NBA team is not an easy task by any means. But if a person gets involved in that business, they are almost guaranteed to make huge money if the team is run correctly.

In an episode of Kevin Hart’s ‘Cold as Balls’ show, Mark explained in detail how he turned an $8,000 investment into billions and ultimately purchased the Dallas Mavericks.

(Starts at 3:58)

Hart: What did you pay for the team?

Cuban: $285 million.

Hart: $285 million? What the f**k is that team worth now?

Cuban: $2.5 billion.

Hart: God damn.

Hart: Where did you get the money?

Cuban: I started the first streaming company, back in 1995. … The internet was happening and I’m like let’s use this internet thing to figure out if we can listen to basketball games. Then it went from listening, then it went to broadcasting on video, then it went to going public, sold it for $5.7 billion and couple of months later bought the Mavs.

Hart: What did you start that company with?

Cuban: About $8,000.

Hart: Are you f*****g kidding me?

The company that Cuban is talking about is broadcast.com. It was certainly a billion-dollar idea, and Mark Cuban made the most of it. Following the sale of the streaming company, he invested in the Dallas Mavericks, which only added more to his net worth.

As of 2022, the Mavericks are worth $3.3 billion, per Forbes. But in the last few months, looking at the lack of help around the franchise superstar Luka Doncic, many have turned against Cuban. They want him to get some help. If he fails to do so, he may lose the support of the fanbase.
