For most NBA athletes, averaging 29.6 points per game in your 19th season would be an impossible task. But for LeBron James, it’s like easy work.

This season, the King has been on an unbelievable tear, maintaining All-Star numbers at 38 years old while making a noticeable impact on the game. Last night was just one example, as LeBron dropped 23, 9, and 6 in a win against the Grizzlies.

Since his 38th birthday, in particular, James has been absolutely rolling, and one NBA analyst thinks there’s a very particular reason for it.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, former NBA point guard (turned analyst) Jay Williams shared his theory on why James has been balling out since his birthday.

“I don’t know if people will ever talk about LeBron this way because, for the longest time, we created a track record that has distanced LeBron James from the likes of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan because we think the mentality isn’t the same… he’s one of the most competitive dudes in the world that I’ve ever seen. Since he’s turned 38 he’s averaging like 37, 10, and 9, shooting 55% from the field which is unheard of. I think one of the biggest motivations behind it is to embarrass the front office in the Lakers organization by saying ‘Y’all aren’t gonna give me pieces? I’m gonna show the world I still belong as one of the best to do it in the game. I’m gonna put pressure on you, which he’s been doing. He’s putting them on blast with these historic performances at an age the game of basketball has never seen… he’s proposing with his play by saying, ‘you guys are gonna waste my talent?’ This is what you’re gonna waste because we’re gonna be waiting to make a move?”

LeBron has made it clear that his loyalty remains with the Purple and Gold, but he’s also made it clear that he isn’t happy with the team’s decision-making lately.

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, LeBron and the Lakers are doing everything they can to convince Rob to make a move and get these guys some help. So far, Pelinka has yet to make any trades, and nobody knows if he will before the deadline expires next month.

LeBron Called Out The Lakers For Refusing To Make A Deal

The Lakers are engaged in somewhat of a civil war right now, as the team remains split on what to do with their picks. With the deadline drawing closer with each passing day, James only grows more and more impatient.

“I’m doing what’s best for my guys in the locker room. That’s all I can worry about,” James said. “I’ll let y’all…

A brief pause as he walks away, and one final, unmistakable comment that was shouted from nearly 20 feet away… Y’all know what the f— should be happening. I don’t need to talk.”

The Lakers are in a complicated situation right now. At the moment, there aren’t any trades that will launch the Lakers into contention, but they may not need another star to give themselves a chance.

At the very least, the Lakers know they’re in the mix, thanks to the presence of the King. But they’ll need a lot more than just him if they want to be serious contenders for the title.
