The Los Angeles Lakers were robbed in their game against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night. The team was on the cusp of a hard-fought win against the team with the NBA’s best record. However, a failure to notice that LeBron James got fouled on the last drive of regulation time led to it turning into a loss for LA.

The reactions have poured in, with fans in disbelief over how blatant the mistake from the referees was. LeBron James himself seemed to be past the point of anger, just wondering what exactly is going on that he can’t get obvious fouls on him called. And while these situations are not easy for the referees either, even they know they messed it up this time.

Crew Chief Eric Lewis Addressed Patrick Beverley’s Technical And The Non-Call On LeBron James

There is a trend in the league that has seen teams be told in reports after the game that calls incorrectly went against them in the clutch. The Sacramento Kings have been victims of this, and it doesn’t achieve much, considering that the result cannot be changed. However, the Lakers will feel at least some vindication after looking at the quotes from Eric Lewis, the main referee during their clash against the Celtics, who accepted that his crew got it wrong.

QUESTION: “Why was Patrick Beverley assessed a technical foul at the end of regulation?”

LEWIS: “His actions were inappropriate in addressing resentment to a non-call.”

QUESTION: “It looked like he brought a camera out – was he trying to show you something?”

LEWIS: “Yes, that was part of his inappropriate actions.”

QUESTION: “It looked like there was contact on LeBron’s drive at the end of regulation. Why was there no foul call there and what did you see there?”

LEWIS: “There was contact. At the time, during the game, we did not see a foul. The crew missed the play.”

Patrick Beverley’s technical foul was wild, and he earned that one, even though he was right to be angry about the non-call. As far as the incident with LeBron James goes, though, there is no doubt that the officials messed that one up. This will be small comfort to the Lakers with a loss added to their season tally, but it’s good to see the referees accept that it was their fault and that they properly missed that call.
