Seemingly every basketball fan on the planet has something different to say when you ask for their All-Time player rankings. With so many great athletes passing through this league, it’s hard to pick one over the other, especially when there are so many criteria to consider.

On social media this week, former Lakers shooter Nick Young tried his best to give his latest list in a tweet, revealing his top five point guards in history.

The only catch? Young actually had seven names because he apparently couldn’t get it down any further than that.

It’s a mostly agreeable list from Young, but there are a few things that might stir up some arguments. Putting Curry over Magic, for example, was a very bold move that not a lot of players from his era would make.

Of course, there’s also the matter of Russell Westbrook. Nick had him fourth on his list, just over Chris Paul and Jason Kidd. And as good as Russ was during his MVP days, there is a case to be made that his stints in Houston, D.C., and L.A. did more harm to his legacy than good. Apparently, however, it’s still enough to put him over Paul, which seems to be a recurring theme in the NBA community.

Is Chris Paul A Top Five Point Guard?

Young did give a mention to Paul, although he did technically fall out of the top five. It might be a surprise to some, but Chris Paul isn’t very liked among his peers and his placement in the history books continues to be a topic of debate.

“It’s Chris Paul,” said DeMarcus Cousins. “Every time I hear a top five PG list, Chris Paul is in it. And I’m not really understanding why. No knock to C.P., strictly from an accolades and a performance standpoint, I don’t think Chris Paul is top five.”

Paul, 37, is a 12x All-Star and 11x All-NBA player. He was also named to the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team last season.  Unfortunately for him, he plays a historically stacked position that includes some of the most successful and accomplished players this world has ever known.

When you’re at the top, and the standards are this high, everything matters — especially the number of championships.
