Just over 10 years ago on Dec. 11, 2014, Kobe Bryant infamously went off on his Los Angeles Lakers teammates during a practice session. Most of Bryant’s fury was directed at Jeremy Lin, and according to Nick Young, who was on that team, he was quite hurt by it. Young was asked about that session on Gil’s Arena and revealed Lin was crying in the locker room afterward.

“It was mostly aimed at Jeremy Lin tell you the truth,” Young said. “People don’t know Jeremy Lin actually cried in the locker room that day… He was emotional.”

Young also shared that Bryant saw Lin crying.

“Kobe already in his Kobe zone, so he like, ‘Man, I ain’t talking to you motherf******,'” Young stated. “… He (Lin) was like, ‘He won’t listen to me, man. What type of team are we if we can’t even talk to each other?’ I said, ‘F*** that’ to him. Kobe can’t do that in that moment. You gotta stand up for yourself. That’s why I was more mad at him. Say something to him. I don’t give a f*** if it was Kobe or not. S*** you on the court with him.”

Young wanted Lin to stand up to Bryant but the point guard didn’t want to do that. Lin instead wanted to talk things over with Kobe, who couldn’t care less about it.

Bryant wasn’t trying to be friends with his teammates and his sole focus was on winning. If he thought you weren’t going to help him win, then he was going to let you know about it by ruthlessly talking trash to you, as Lin found out. You can check out what Bryant said to him below.

“He don’t want it… This motherf***** don’t got s**t,” Bryant said. “You ain’t got s**t on me. Go ahead, shoot. Shoot. Motherf***** can’t even get ready to shoot. F***** didn’t even want to shoot that s***. Talked his a** right into that bull****. F***** don’t want no problems with me. Practice get real uncomfortable when I’m out this motherf*****.”

Lin then turned the ball over on a play and that made matters worse.

“That motherf***** is sleeping out here,” Bryant stated. “Motherf***** soft like Charmin, out this motherf*****… God damn, is this the type of s*** that go on when I’m not in practice? God damn, now I see why we lost god damn 24 games. F***ing soft like Charmin.”

That was nasty. Bryant was in a foul mood with how terribly the Lakers’ season was going and Lin ended up paying the price for it. They would end that 2014-15 campaign with a woeful 21-61 record, the worst in franchise history at the time.

Lin was unsurprisingly not interested in being around Bryant for much longer after that practice session. He became a free agent in 2015 and joined the Charlotte Hornets on a two-year deal. Lin would go on to have some productive seasons in the league in the following years and even won a championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

As for Bryant, his days of winning titles were long gone by this point. He wouldn’t be in the NBA for much longer either, as he announced he would be retiring after the end of the 2015-16 season.
