Nikola Jokic Says He Was Sleeping When He Was Drafted: “Come On Bro, I’m Sleeping.”

2 Min Read

Nikola Jokic is one of the most talented players in the game today, despite not possessing jaw-dropping athleticism. Nikola Jokic’s game is based on skill and vision, and there aren’t many in the league that can do what he does. Nikola Jokic is one of the top superstars in this league, but there was a time where he didn’t even know that he’d be drafted.

Nikola Jokic was drafted in the second round with the 41st pick in the NBA Draft. It seems as though Jokic didn’t expect to be drafted at all, as he was sleeping during the draft. During Nikola Jokic’s interview with Rachel Nichols, he has stated that back then, he never imagined that he’d be in the NBA. (1:55)

To be honest, I was sleeping. My brother called me, and he was partying, opening champagne… he was in New York at the time. I was like “Come on bro, I’m sleeping.” In that moment I didn’t even think it’s a big thing. Cause I never imagined coming here.

It is clear that despite the fact that Nikola Jokic was criminally underrated by the majority of NBA franchises, he has made himself into a self-built MVP candidate. It is funny to think about how he actually slept through part of the draft and was unbothered by his draft position.

Nikola Jokic is one of the best players in the league, and he has brought the Denver Nuggets to being on the level of other contenders in the Western Conference. While the Nuggets have had huge injury issues, it does seem like Nikola Jokic will bring them to the playoffs as one of the top 4 seeds in the Western Conference.
