Scottie Pippen Believes Victor Wembanyama Can Break Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-Point Scoring Record

Scottie Pippen’s recent comments on the PBD Podcast highlighted his belief in the unparalleled potential of Victor Wembanyama. When host Patrick Bet-David asked if anyone could break Wilt Chamberlain’s iconic 100-point scoring record, Pippen confidently responded with a yes While many might assume the feat could come from a sharpshooter like Stephen Curry or a dominant interior force like Shaquille O’Neal, Pippen offered a surprising answer: Wembanyama.

Patrick Bet-David: “100-point game will anybody break that.”

Scottie Pippen: “Yes.”

Patrick Bet-David: “Is it more like a Steph Curry or more like Shaq?”

Scottie Pippen: “More like a Wemby… I think that Wemby would be the guy if it could happen because of his size he can shorten up the court. His size, his range.”

Pippen explained that Wembanyama’s combination of size, versatility, and skill set makes him a unique candidate to achieve the impossible. Standing at 7’4” with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama’s ability to dominate inside the paint while also being a threat from beyond the arc sets him apart from traditional big men.

His agility and ball-handling skills allow him to play like a guard in a center’s body, creating mismatches across all positions. Pippen’s reasoning stems from Wembanyama’s ability to cover more ground than any player before him, allowing him to take more shots and capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Wembanyama is making headlines in his second NBA season, putting up staggering numbers that underline his potential to redefine the game. Averaging 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 4.1 blocks per game, he’s not just a scoring force but a complete player on both ends of the court. His shooting splits of 47.4% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range further showcase his versatility and offensive efficiency.

He’s also an early favorite for Defensive Player of the Year, demonstrating his ability to impact games beyond scoring. Many analysts believe he’s on track to be named an All-Star, an All-NBA candidate, and potentially the best defensive player of his generation. DeMarcus Cousins even went as far as to declare Wembanyama as a future all-time GOAT on defense.

Wembanyama’s ability to break records has already been evident. He became one of the fastest players to hit 200 three-pointers, surpassing the likes of Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Ray Allen, who sit atop the all-time three-point leaderboard. This accomplishment highlights his scoring ability from long range, a critical factor in any player’s quest to challenge the 100-point mark.

For Wembanyama to break the record, several factors would need to align. A game with a high pace, perfect shooting efficiency, and weak defensive opposition could set the stage. His ability to score from inside and out, combined with his height advantage, makes him an ideal candidate to exploit such scenarios. Additionally, Wembanyama’s defensive prowess could help him rack up steals and blocks, creating more opportunities for fast-break points.

Scottie Pippen’s belief in Wembanyama’s potential to break Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game reflects the awe-inspiring talent of the French phenom. While the feat remains a daunting challenge, Wembanyama’s unique skill set and record-breaking pace suggest that he may have the best chance of any player in history to achieve it.
