NBA Rumors: Chicago Bulls Could Be “Main Competitors” To Land Mitchell Robinson

Mitchell Robinson is a solid young center, who played for the New York Knicks during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 8.5 PPG and 8.6 RPG for the New York Knicks in 25.7 minutes a game, and he could potentially develop into a premier defensive center in the future.

At the end of this season, Mitchell Robinson will be a free agent. A potential destination for him could be the Chicago Bulls. Marc Berman of the New York Post revealed that the Bulls are “continuing to do their research” on the center, adding that they “could be the main competitors” for his services if the New York Knicks don’t lock him up to a new contract.

The Knicks, however, aren’t out of the woods yet. The Post has learned the Bulls are continuing to do their research on Robinson ahead of the free-agency period that will begin July 1. The Bulls could be the main competitors for Robinson if the Knicks don’t lock him up to a contract extension on June 30.

The Bulls want to enhance their interior defense and believe Robinson could be a good fit slotted alongside offense-minded center Nikola Vucevic. Chicago reportedly has $49 million in cap space, but that’s before they commit to their own free agent, Zach LaVine — if they commit.

The Chicago Bulls were eliminated in the first round this year, and it makes sense that they would want ways to improve their defense following that defeat. Their deficiencies on that end were glaring and perhaps adding a center like Mitchell Robinson could help with that.

We’ll see how well the Chicago Bulls do next season. A lot of that obviously hinges on whether they can retain star scorer Zach LaVine. Hopefully, they are able to do so, and perhaps they can become a contender next season.
