NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Could Sign Andre Drummond

Lakers big man Andre Drummond faces a highly uncertain future. After his career in Detroit ended, he went to Cleveland where his value and worth as a player quickly tanked.

Most recently, he joined the Lakers as their starting center, a project that most would classify as a failure. he only averaged 14.9 points, 12 rebounds, and 1 block per game on 53% shooting.

While questions continue to surface about Drummond’s future in the league, there is still hope that he might land with a quality team.

According to Heat insider Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the franchise could be looking to sign the rim-running big man.

“Drummond is an option if Spoelstra is willing to change his approach and play him with Adebayo,” Jackson wrote. “The Heat had some interest before he signed with the Lakers and another pursuit wouldn’t surprise me.”

After making the 2020 Finals, Miami had high hopes of competing for years down the line. With Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Duncan Robinson, they have a solid core that should keep them relevant for years.

Unfortunately, things didn’t exactly pan out for the Heat in their most recent tenure. Injuries, chemistry issues, and a lack of depth hurt them all year long, and they capped it off by getting swept in the very first round by Milwaukee.

The hope is that, with time to get right, the Heat will be in for a better future. Obviously, bringing in guys like Drummond (established veterans who fill their need), should also help them return to a state of title contention.

Until then, though, we will continue to guess and speculate what will come next for both the Heat and the 2x All-Star. It will be a bust and critical summer for both sides, that much is sure.
