Kyle Kuzma is in the penultimate year of his last contract, having signed a $39 million contract in 2021. The former Laker is an NBA champion already and is currently in his prime, with his next contract likely to be his last really big one. And Kuzma has been playing at a high level with the Washington Wizards, meaning there will be significant interest in him moving forward.

Kyle Kuzma has been putting up All-Star-level numbers this season, he is averaging over 21 points per game. He also has nearly 8 rebounds per game, which is a massive number for his position. The 27-year-old is looking like he can be an incredible 3rd option on a contending team, and it seems like he’s thinking along the same lines as well

Kyle Kuzma Is Looking For A Bigger Payday And A Move To A Contender

Becoming an unrestricted free agent gives players like Kuzma the ability to think and choose where to sign. Any contender would be happy to have him on their roster, and his reported $20 million demand isn’t even too big considering that the salary cap is about to go way up. And if his production stays up, then it might just end up becoming a steal as well. Bleacher Report revealed what Kuzma is supposedly looking for moving forward.

“Kuzma (27), however, is a flight risk and precisely the kind of player many rebuilding teams would covet in free agency. He could be a top-five free agent this offseason—at worst, top-10. ‘He wants out,’ an NBA source said. ‘He’s looking for over $20 million a season and in a big market [or with a contender].’

“Kuzma is believed to still be on the Sacramento Kings’ radar after they missed out on him in 2021 when the Los Angeles Lakers traded him to Washington instead of Sacramento. The Kings can’t trade a first until 2028 (due to protections on their obligation to the Atlanta Hawks for Kevin Huerter), but they could build a deal around Harrison Barnes with that distant pick and/or prospects like Davion Mitchell.”

The Washington Wizards are in a weird spot right now. The roster has some high-end talent, but Bradley Beal‘s contract is quite bad for them. And for a player like Kuzma, the appeal of a bigger market and the ability to contend for championships are both missing in Washington. It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Laker.
