Devin Booker has become one of the deadliest scorers in the league in almost no time. It’s been clear that he’s a special talent and that he has all the tools to be the league’s Scoring champion any given night.
Still, the Phoenix Suns have miserably failed to surround him with enough talent and a consistent core that could help him actually lead the team to the playoffs.
Thus, if the Suns don’t make the postseason this year – which is highly unlikely that they’ll do – and Booker’s frustration continues to grow, perhaps they’d be left with no other choice than to listen to trade offers for their All-Star.
And, according to Greg Schwartz of Bleacher Report, the Atlanta Hawks would be delighted to offering Booker some safe passage and play ‘King’s Ransom’ with the Suns to bring him home. For that, however, they’d have to pay a big price.
In this proposed trade, the Hawks would have to send John Collins, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter, Dewayne Dedmon, and their 2020 first-round pick to the Suns.
“Giving up so much would be risky for the Hawks but also produce a core of Trae Young, Booker, Cam Reddish and Clint Capela. If Reddish continues his late-season surge, this could be the base of one of the best teams in the East for years to come,” the report read.
The Suns could continue their rebuilding process with a top-5 pick, the young players they get from the Hawks, plus their own young core of Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, and Cameron Johnson, plus a one-year rental of Kelly Oubre Jr.
A backcourt duo of Trae Young and Devin Booker could be a nightmare for opposing defenses for many years to come. They’re two of the most talented young players in the league and they’re both tired of losing. The Hawks already promised Trae that they’ll get him more help, so they better pull the trigger in the 2020 offseason.
