The NBA landscape is always changing. NBA stars change teams, coaching spots are often vacated for better options, and there is no more loyalty when it comes to winning. This means that we are in an era of blockbuster deals where team general managers want to improve their teams and make big bucks to quickly become successful. Luckily, we’re in a league full of equality, with plenty of stars that could be traded to help NBA teams close the gap at the top.
At the same time, role players are also getting close to being traded in the 2023 season. Right now, the NBA is a guard-lead game, and having enough playmakers and shooters is key to having success in the NBA. In fact, some big blockbuster deals are very likely to be completed during this season. In some big deals that will change the NBA landscape, here are 15 point guards and shooting guards that could be traded right now and will likely be dealt before the trade deadline on Tuesday, February 9th.
Patrick Beverley

2022-23 Season Statistics: 6.4 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.5 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.5 BPG
The Los Angeles Lakers surprisingly traded Talen Horton-Tucker for Patrick Beverley this offseason in a move that was confusing and interesting at the same time. Horton-Tucker is only 22 years old, and Beverley is 34 years old and not exactly a talented scorer or playmaker. Regardless, the Lakers made the move to add a veteran who competes on defense and brings a winning attitude.
But Beverley has not been a great player for the Lakers this season because he is posting 6.4 PPG on 34.7% from deep and is not the player to take the team to the promised land. Beverley’s value has always been off the stat sheet, but the Lakers could trade the guard if it means bringing in a better shooter.
Duncan Robinson

2022-23 Season Statistics: 6.9 PPG, 1.9 RPG, 1.2 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG
Duncan Robinson has always been an elite shooter, but this season he has become an unwanted man in Miami. The Heat have two untouchables in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, but everyone else could be made tradeable if it means winning a championship right now. Duncan Robinson is one of those guys who will likely be moved.
Robinson averages a career 40.1% from three and is only shooting 33.1% from three this season because he has only appeared in 28 games on 17.9 MPG of play. The shooting guard is best when he has open shots due to All-Star teammates, meaning he will always be needed by teams that need a spot-up marksman.
Grayson Allen

2022-23 Season Statistics: 10.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Grayson Allen is in trade talks right now since the Milwaukee Bucks are title contenders and will have no issues shuffling the roster if it means boosting their chances of winning another NBA title for the first time since 2021. Allen is an excellent shooter (40.6%) from three, and he also competes on defense quite well. Unfortunately, that also means the shooting guard employs dirty tactics.
Allen is not necessarily a fan-favorite in the NBA, but his two-way abilities and especially his shooting, means he is a perfect role player for many teams. The Bucks want to add legitimate pieces around Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday, so moving one of their key role players could boost their status in the Eastern Conference.
Eric Gordon

2022-23 Season Statistics: 12.5 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Eric Gordon is the only winning veteran on the tanking Houston Rockets this season, and he has done a great job trying to motivate young players such as Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr on the roster. Even when he is 34 years old and past his best, Gordon can help a host of teams win games instead of wasting the final years of his prime with the Rockets.
Gordon’s value is quite high right now because of his countless playoff stints with the Rockets during the James Harden days, so his experience and impact are needed. The shooting guard is posting 12.5 PPG on 33.6% from three, and by playing on a better team, he can get those shooting numbers up. Expect teams to continue to ask for Gordon because the Houston Rockets would be silly to not listen if it means second-round picks or potentially a first-round pick heading their way.
John Wall

2022-23 Season Statistics: 11.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 5.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.4 BPG
John Wall is clearly past his best, to the point that the Los Angeles Clippers might be looking to move him. The point guard is still speedy with the ball and has a lot of experience, but he is not a great shooter and seems to be a high-usage player who thrives on the ball better than off it. Is there a team that wants Wall to be their primary playmaker right now?
The answer is no, but Wall might be willing to change his game if he does get traded yet again. The Clippers need shooters around Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, and John Wall does not fit with the team because he is only shooting 30.3% from three and is not a spot-up shooter alongside other stars. The Clippers are easily looking to move Wall for other point guards who fit better.
Tim Hardaway Jr.

2022-23 Season Statistics: 13.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG
The Dallas Mavericks might be sellers this season, and the franchise seems to be interested in moving on from Tim Hardaway Jr., a solid scorer from the shooting guard position. Hardaway Jr. is averaging 13.7 PPG and 3.4 RPG on 38.3% FG, 35.4% 3-PT FG, and 77.1% FT, decent numbers but below-average efficiency.
The Mavericks can’t afford to lose scorers because Luka Doncic needs help, but Hardaway Jr. isn’t exactly the long-term answer because he is as streaky as it gets. The shooting guard is more reserved for a bench role, something Dallas can’t afford to have when they need perimeter stars alongside Luka right now.
Seth Curry

2022-23 Season Statistics: 10.9 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.2 BPG
The Los Angeles Lakers need shooters desperately, and there are few role players who can space the floor better than Seth Curry. In fact, Curry could be a player that could elevate Los Angeles to another level when he is on the floor because he is that lethal from deep. Over his career, Seth is averaging 43.9% from deep on only 25.0 MPG.
This season with the Brooklyn Nets, Curry is averaging 10.9 PPG on 43.8% from three in 23.3 MPG. With the Lakers, Curry will start alongside Dennis Schroder, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Thomas Bryant to create a dynamic starting lineup to push them to a deep playoff run if they can get into the postseason. No doubt, Seth Curry is a key target for the Purple and Gold because a deal for the guard marks a ton of sense.
Terry Rozier

2022-23 Season Statistics: 21.7 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Terry Rozier has been a consistent starter for the Charlotte Hornets because plays hard, defends, and scores consistently. The guard is posting 21.7 PPG and 5.1 APG this season on 35.7 MPG of play and is draining 33.9% of his three-point shots. A capable two-way guard, Rozier always competes on every possession and has built a reputation as a tough guy since his days with the Boston Celtics.
LaMelo Ball is a superstar for the Hornets, and the franchise could sacrifice other players to clear cap space as they look for another star to join the talented point guard. Finding more stars on the roster should be the goal at the expense of valuable trade assets like Rozier, a player in his prime who can offer title contenders his excellent services. Expect the Los Angeles Lakers to try to acquire Rozier because this could be a deal that makes a ton of sense for the franchise and the player. It is rare that there could be a deal that benefits all parties, but Rozier could realistically be a part of one, and the Lakers could be happy with it, specifically.
Russell Westbrook

2022-23 Season Statistics: 15.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 7.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Nobody knows what will happen to the Los Angeles Lakers because they can look like title contenders in one half and then look like a lottery team over the next. The ultimate scapegoat, Russell Westbrook, is a free agent next year, meaning there could be massive roster changes coming before he walks away. Everything the Lakers do should be to win with LeBron James because he is posting 30.2 PPG, 8.5 RPG, and 7.1 APG at 38 years old.
Russell Westbrook, the contender for the 6th Man of the Year award, might be traded as a result. To gain value from Russ and prevent him from leaving for nothing, the Lakers might pull the trigger on a deal that could see the former MVP heading out of town once and for all. Lakers fans have been impressed with Russ’ performances since becoming a bench player, but most of them would not mind if he was traded, especially if a superstar like Zach LaVine is potentially available.
Gary Trent Jr.

2022-23 Season Statistics: 18.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Gary Trent Jr. is an excellent scorer who can get very hot just as he can go cold. But so far this season, the shooting guard is playing heavy minutes at 33.2 MPG and is posting 18.6 PPG on 36.9% from three. Although it must be mentioned that the Toronto Raptors could be sellers if it means re-focusing their chances in the Eastern Conference.
Trent Jr. is a hot commodity right now because any team would do well to add shooting and scoring ability from the shooting guard position. The current Raptors guard is suitable to start on most teams because of the confidence in his offense, so the franchise might cash in on him if it means bringing in a first-round pick or pieces that fit better alongside Scottie Barnes.
Mike Conley

2022-23 Season Statistics: 10.3 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 7.6 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Mike Conley is another player on the Utah Jazz that has done well for the team but probably is not the best long-term option. The point guard has plenty of experience and can still run an offense efficiently. This season, Conley is posting 10.3 PPG and 7.6 APG at 35 years old, which means he is not the best option for a rebuilding franchise.
The Jazz won’t get a better package for Conley than if they trade him now because trading the point guard now before the trade deadline and maximizing their assets. Quite surprisingly, the Los Angeles Clippers could be in the mix for Conley because they need to stock up on shooters and veterans who know how to win games. Could a John Wall trade be in the works if it means the Clippers get Conley in return?
Buddy Hield

2022-23 Season Statistics: 17.4 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Sharpshooter Buddy Hield is one of the most attractive targets for a host of NBA teams in today’s NBA. He has a perfect stroke from deep and has the potential to be a very effective 2-way player. So far this year, Hield is leading all players in most three-pointers made this season with 197 makes. Clearly, his services would be perfect in Los Angeles, a team that has been trying to acquire the shooter for months now.
A team like the Lakers would be perfect for his playing style. Hield can play alongside LeBron and Davis, as they need shooters who can knock down shots consistently. Other teams, such as the Dallas Mavericks, might want a shooter, but Los Angeles should be the key destination for a player of Hield’s services. This season, he is posting 17.4 PPG and 4.9 RPG, so he is easily a starting-caliber player.
D’Angelo Russell

2022-23 Season Statistics: 17.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 6.2 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.4 BPG
D’Angelo Russell was supposed to be one of the key players leading the charge for the Minnesota Timberwolves before and after Rudy Gobert joined the squad. But since touching down in Minnesota, the progression that took Russell from a youngster with the Los Angeles Lakers to an All-Star with the Brooklyn Nets has stopped.
While he might be good enough to keep Minnesota out of the lottery and into the playoffs as a starting point guard, he has not been too impressive. The Timberwolves should move on from Russell and should do it now because they need to focus their efforts on maximizing the play of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Russell’s numbers have stagnated, and he could be more valuable elsewhere without a doubt.
Jordan Clarkson

2022-23 Season Statistics: 20.9 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 4.3 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.2 BPG
A hot scorer from off the bench who has a ton of confidence, Clarkson is a great piece for any team needing immediate scoring. The 30-year-old is in his prime and is posting 20.9 PPG for the surprisingly decent Utah Jazz team that stands 26-26 when they were expected to be one of the three worst teams in the Western Conference.
Still, the Utah Jazz should not be focusing on the playoffs because most of their roster will be older next year and incapable of making a difference. Clarkson’s value has been high over the past few seasons, so Utah should cash in on him before the trade deadline. Interestingly, Clarkson has rejected a contract extension which could mean the end of the guard’s successful spell in Utah. Expect the Jazz to gain a couple of important assets in return for Clarkson’s services in terms of first-round picks or young players.
Fred VanVleet

2022-23 Season Statistics: 19.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 6.5 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.6 BPG
A fan-favorite in Toronto and a player who helped the team win the NBA championship in 2019, Fred VanVleet is a talented scorer and playmaker who also competes on defense. An NBA franchise wouldn’t normally trade a player of VanVleet’s talent, but keeping him might not make sense. Quite frankly, the Raptors are not good enough right now.
Unless the Raptors can take a gamble on a superstar as they did with Kawhi Leonard in 2019, they should rebuild around Scottie Barnes and acquire as many first-round picks as possible. There are a couple of Raptors players that could be traded right now, and the guard posting 19.1 PPG, and 6.5 AGP could be one of them.
